Lillian Kaufer: A Champion for Working Families in the 44th District
Monday, June 7

One of our priorities for the 2010 elections is to hold anti-worker politicians accountable and elect new progressive champions to serve in the Washington State Senate.
Lillian Kaufer – the SEIU Healthcare 775NW endorsed candidate for Senate in the 44th district – is a small business owner and promises to be a champion for working families.
When she announced her campaign, she said “At the end of the legislative session, the State Senate proposed a sales tax hike while not ending a tax exemption for out-of-state banks. I decided right then that we need more voices for working families and small business owners in the State Senate.”
She is running against an anti-worker candidate, Steve Hobbs. Steve Hobbs scored an F on the
SEIU Healthcare 775NW report card and has worked to prevent workers from forming a union.
In 2009, he received the FUSE “Broken Compass” Award since according to FUSE, Hobbs is known for “consistently betraying the needs and interests of their constituents, for consistently siding with powerful businesses in opposing progress, and for consistently failing to represent the values of voters in their districts.”
SEIU members interviewed Kaufer and Hobbs on Tuesday, May 25th and overwhelmingly decided that Kaufer is the best candidate for working families. Get your doorbelling shoes ready because this will be a priority race for our union in the 2010 elections!
