Avalon Northpointe Contract 2008-2010

SEIU Healthcare 775NW caregivers and Avalon have approved our union contract, with raises, a labor-management committee to help solve facility issues and paid leave to help lobby for increased quality care for our residents.

Some of the highlights include:

Better Wages!
We won raises of $0.45/hour for all housekeepers, laundry workers and dietary aides. We also won increases of $0.28/hour for NACs, NARs and Restorative Aides and $0.40/hour for workers in all other job classifications. All of these raises are effective July 1, 2008.

Guaranteed Minimum Hiring Rates
We set minimum hiring rates for all job classifications in the bargaining unit:

Restorative Aide                                    $10.75
NAC                                                         $10.50
NAR                                                           $9.25
Cook                                                       $10.00
Housekeeping/Laundry                           $9.00
Dietary Aide                                             $9.00
Recreation Assistant                               $9.50
Maintenance Assistant                            $9.50

These minimum rates will help improve the recruitment of workers for open positions. In addition, all workers hired before July 2008 will be paid at least their minimum hiring rate to ensure that newer workers will not receive higher pay than workers with experience.

Labor Management Committee
Union members and management representatives will be coming together regularly to discuss important issues in the facility and look for mutually beneficial ways to solve problems.

Paid Lobby Day Leave!
Avalon will pay for up to four union members each year to spend a day talking to our politicians about how important it is to our residents and co-workers that they improve funding for long-term care.

In order to continue to win better wages and benefits for our families and improve quality care for our residents, we need to hold politicians accountable.
