Although it isn’t all that we had hoped for, it will prevent many of the devastating cuts to long-term care that we were facing. Considering the deep cuts that were proposed in the original Governor’s budget, we should all be proud of the wins this year.

Our emails, phone calls, petitions, and visits to Olympia on Purple Presence and Save Long-Term Care Day made the difference. We convinced lawmakers that we could not afford an all-cuts budget, which would have devastated home care, nursing homes and adult day health in our state.

Holding Politicians Accountable

We will use the grades in this Legislative Report Card to hold politicians accountable. We will endorse candidates who stand up for working families, seniors and people with disabilities, regardless of political party. During the 2010 election season, members of our union will be working in key legislative districts across the state on our endorsement process. Some candidates who have proven themselves reliable champions for long-term care workers, clients and residents will be endorsed quickly. Others – especially new candidates or those with a mixed record on the issues – will have to go through an extensive endorsement process.
